I am working on making a shawl ready for my show in April... and in the process, realizing how much of this entire basket/desert project has been using my ephemeral memories to create lasting objects. This piece is based on one moment in time, lasting only a few minutes, as the sunset was reflected on the west face of the Providence Mountains. These mountains are in the Preserve, directly east of where I lived. I saw this image on the nights when I was at home, and I was amazed and comforted by the brief explosion of vibrant color that happened every night as a result of the setting sun. This shawl encapsulates the desire to wrap myself in those colors and remember a moment for as long as I can.
