This basket is one I made for my residency application process, and it applied to several related proposals. All of the proposals combined an ancient craft practice with contemporary materials that we would usually consider waste. At a Goodwill one day, I found this beautiful old copper sound cable and a cream-colored sweater made with wonderful variegated yarn. I worked on the piece for a while, and the coiling technique combined with the motion of stitching was unexpectedly therapeutic. The object makes use of a number of styles, but was originally inspired by sweetgrass coiling.
